초록

Before the Chosun`s government was fully prepared to open its ports, Japan invaded Kanghwa Island and demanded further openings. Consequently, Choson was obliged to sign the first modern treaty of amity with Japan in 1876. The government also concluded treaties of amity and commerce with the United States, England, Germany, Russia, France and other nations. Diplomatic relations between the Russian Empire and Chosun were established in 1884. Since then the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Empire sought for a direct contact with the Chosun government by proposing a conference to settle down the territory problem. The Treaty of Friendship and Commerce between Russia and Chosun of 1884 was drawn based on the Treaty of Friendship and Commerce between Great Britain and Chosun. This treaty included contents of the unequal treaty such as consular jurisdiction, the loss of tariff, most-favored clause. The region of Preamuriye was separated from the East Siberia in 1884, and the Far East region of Russia became an independent political and administrative entity. And Russia`s pioneering in the Far East region continued much more aggressively.
