초록

This study aims to locate effective ways to motivate demotivated students, so they can take control of their own English learning in Korean classrooms. Sixty-five college students participated in this study. A student survey was conducted to determine which classroom activities they found most motivating. The researcher implemented the activities most popularly chosen and analyzed their responses from student drafts following implementation. Student responses on questionnaires were fairly scattered among alternatives, but most students reported a preference for doing worksheets alone and remaining at their seat. Another most attentive outcome was a high preference of music, which was 86.1%. However, after implementation, results from student drafts revealed that students were mostly motivated when they were encouraged and praised by their own teachers. In other words, teachers' positive attitudes were most effective in motivating the demotivated students in college English classrooms.
