The purpose of the study is to investigate factors that affect Korean college students’ motivational changes in learning English. The participants were 183 nursing major students in a local city. Data were collected through autobiographic essays on their English learning experiences from primary to college years. The findings of the study showed that the teacher factor exerted consistent influence on students’ motivation and demotivation while students’ attitude toward English, instrumental goals, and test scores exhibited different degrees of impact on different periods. The results of the study suggest that teachers play a significant role in motivating or demotivating students in the EFL context. Teachers’ awareness of their possible influence and effort to improve teaching methods is essential to maintain or increase students’ motivation in learning English.
