Abstract

This paper examined the influence of international experience of expatriate managers on cross-cultural adjustment. The existing studies showed the mixed results of the relationship between international experience and expatriate adjustment. Given the uncertain relationship between international experience and expatriate adjustment, we investigated that the degree of internationalization and current assignment tenure played moderate role in establishing a relationship between international experience and expatriate adjustment with data from Korean expatriate managers. Results indicated a significant interactive effect between the degree of firm's internationalization and international experience on expatriate adjustment. In addition, expatriate period had a greater effect on expatriate adjustment than expatriate frequency on expatriate adjustment. However, there was no interaction effect between current tenure and international experience.
