초록
This paper proposes a new analysis of a focus feature, as well as the Intervention Effect. From a semantic perspective, I suggest that nominal phrases and wh-words have two contrary features, which are [+definite] and [-definite]. Theoretical backgrounds of nominal expressions and wh-words show multiple layers of CP and focus structure (Jayaseelan 2008; Rizzi 1997). Two kinds of focus features represent [+exhaustive] or [+contrastive] features, which are referred to as an identificational focus, and [+existential] feature, which signifies new information and is called an informational focus (Kiss 1998, 2008, 2010). In addition, pragmatic views of wh-words support a distinction between [+definite] and [-definite] features. Consequently, the interpretation of wh-words in wh-questions is attributed to a definite feature based on the information structure. (Keimyung University)
