The present study investigated whether short-term overseas English programs had any impact on Korean middle school students’ English learning motivation and their English proficiency. A total of 140 Korean middle school students from three middle schools responded to questionnaires regarding the length of participation in the short-term overseas English program, English learning motivation, and English achievement. Results show that the students’ experience of the short-term overseas language program has a positive influence on both English learning motivation and English achievement. However, the effect is not statistically significant. Pedagogical implications based on the findings support the need for the development of overseas English programs suitable for different types of learners (e.g., proficiency levels, learning styles, students’ needs).
