이 글은 신 문제를 철학적으로 살피고자 하였다. 이미 철학사 안에 꾸준히, 고대로부터 중세를 거쳐 근대 및 현대에 이르기까지 때론 수용적으로 때론 부정적으로 혹은 함축적으로 고찰되어온 신 개념을 개략적으로 살핀 다음, 오늘날 현대철학이 왜 대부분 신 문제를 외면하게 되었는지 진단해보았다. 특히 신 문제를 외면한 현대인과 현대철학이 직면한 문제점도 함께 살펴보았다. 마지막으로 현대기술문명 속에서 살아가는 우리에게도 신 문제가 여전히 유효하다는 점을 지적하고자 했다. 왜냐하면 현대인이 신 문제를 외면한 것은 신 개념 자체가 안고 있는 모순보다도, 예컨대 초월적 존재에 대한 인간의 과학-경험적 접근시도의 한계에 따른 어려움보다도 그와 관계하는 인간에 대한 의미 및 가치의 자기포기처럼 보인다는 점을 지적하고 싶었기 때문이다.
Abstract
This paper philosophically attempts to inquire into the concepts of God. Upon examination of several concepts of history of philosophy which had been considered acceptable, sometimes adversely, or implicatively throughout ancient, medieval to modern day, we observed why contemporary philosophy mostly neglects the God related matters. We will particularly look into the problems which modern people and contemporary philosophy disregarding God face today. Lastly, the fact that a concept or thinking of God is still effective among people with modern technology should be indicated. This is not because of the contradiction the concept of God itself carries or difficulties in scientific or experience based attempts to reach supernatural God. However it is because it seems to be tilted more toward self-abandonment of meaning or value of one being connected to God.
