‘고향 없음’의 삶에 관한 철학적 반성

아파트는 한국의 표준적인 주거공간이다. 아파트의 삶은 규격화된 공간에서 표준화된 삶의 지도에 따라 원자화된 개인에 의해 형성된다. 장소적 고향이라는 전통적 의미의 고향은 이미 사라진 지 오래다. 이를 ‘절대적 현재’라는 시간적인 고향이 대체하고 있다. 장소적 고향이 유일무이한 공간이라면, ‘절대적 현재’라는 시간적 고향은 대체 가능한 공간이다. 절대적 현재는 ‘유행’에 따라 자신을 계속 변화시켜 간다. 이 현재의 흐름에서 개인은 살아남기 위해 끊임없이 자기 혁신을 감행해야 한다. 이것에 성공하지 못하면 현재에 머무를 수 없다. 절대적 현재는 공간적인 고향을 자기 자신으로부터 추방했기 때문에 절대적인 공간으로 머무른다. 절대적 현재라는 일차원성에 갇히게 되면 우리는 무한한 생존경쟁의 늪에 빠지게 된다. 여기서 벗어나기 위해 절대적 현재와는 다른 차원인 장소적 고향 개념을 복원해야 한다. 이를 위해 네 가지 근거를 제시한다면, 첫째, 푸코는 헤테로토피아라는 개념을 통해 현재의 공간에 대한 반대 공간을 개념화한다. 고향을 규정하기 위해서도 반대 고향으로서의 헤테로토피아로서의 장소적 고향이 필요하다. 둘째, 절대적 현재라는 시간적인 고향은 그 자체가 너무 추상적이기 때문에 장소적 고향으로의 퇴행을 불가피하게 만든다. 왜냐하면, 인간은 구체적인 장소를 자신의 고향으로 두길 원하기 때문이다. 셋째, 인간은 이야기하는 존재로서 자신을 규정한다. 고향은 나의 삶의 이야기의 출발점을 형성한다. 출발점이 없는 이야기는 존재할 수 없다. 그래서 장소적인 고향은 필요하다. 넷째, 이러한 장소적인 고향은 나의 생존의 근거이다. ‘절대적 현재’라는 시간적인 고향은 장소를 생존을 위한 도구로 전락시킨다. 하지만 구체적인 장소로서의 고향은 오히려 생존을 위한 기초이다. 이런 점에서 우리는 장소적 고향의 중요성에 대해 반성해야 할 필요가 있다. 이를 위해 필요한 것이 공간 개념의 복원이다. 시간이 구체성을 모두 추상화하는 위력이라면, 공간은 구체적인 사물에 위력을 부여하는 장소이다. 그래서 공간은 채워지고, 그래서 구체적이다.
Abstract
The apartment is a standard residential space in Korea. The life of an apartment is formed by the atomized individual in the standardized space according to the standardized guidance of life. The home in the traditional sense of place is long gone. It is being replaced by the temporal home of 'absolute present'. If the spatial home is a unique space, the temporal home of 'absolute present' is an replaceable space. The absolute present constantly changes itself according to 'fashion'. In this current stream, an individual must constantly innovate in order to survive. If you don't succeed, you won't be able to stay in the present. Absolute present stays as absolute space because it expelled the spatial home from himself. When we are trapped in the one-dimensionality of the absolute present, we fall into the swamp of infinite survival competition. In order to get out of here, we must restore the concept of a place of home, a dimension different from the absolute present. I will present four reasons for this. First, Foucault conceptualizes the opposite of the current space through the concept of heterotopia. In order to define the home, it needs a local home as a heterotopia as the opposite home. Second, the temporal home of the absolute present itself is so abstract that it is inevitable to regress into the spatial home, because man wants to put a concrete place in his hometown. Third, humans define themselves as talking beings. Home forms the starting point of my life story. There can be no story without a starting point. So a place of home is needed. Fourth, this place of origin is the basis of my survival. The temporal home of 'absolute present' turns a place into a tool for survival. But the home as a concrete place is rather the basis for survival. In this regard, we need to reflect on the importance of spatial home. What is needed for this is the restoration of the concept of space. If time is the power that abstracts all concreteness, space is the place that gives power to concrete objects. So the space is filled, so specific.
