Serviced Residence is now growing worldwide. In Korea, however, its possibility of growth has not come true, due to legal disputes with the existing hotel industry. But, now the legal ground for utilizing the serviced residence as accommodations facilities has been set up in Korea, as the Ministry of Health & Welfare has recently amended the Enforcement Decree of the Public Health Control Act toward dividing the accommodations business into general tourist accommodations business and living accommodations business as of January 31, 2012. Therefore, the purpose of this study is (i) to correctly understand the concepts and characteristics of serviced residence through fundamental studies of the local serviced residence industry and (ii) to search ways to successfully advance to the accommodations industry through analyses of current operation realities and establishment of renewed legal status.
