생태현상학의 상징주의와 유물론적 기획—메를로퐁티의 자연관을 중심으로—

이 글은 메를로퐁티의 현상학적 상징주의에 함축된 ‘생태론적 철학’의 자연관을 통해 〈환경윤리의 유물론‘적’ 기획 및 이 기획의 ‘사회/역사’철학적 의의 및 과제〉를 다룬 논문이다: 요컨대, 환경철학의 새 담론으로 제기된 ‘생태론적 철학’의 환경윤리가 기존의 ‘감각주의’ 내지 ‘생명주의’의 환경윤리에 여전히 남아있는 휴머니즘의 폭력성을 온전히 도려내기 위해선 무엇보다도 ‘생태론적 철학’의 핵심난제로 지목되는 사안, 즉 “인간의 자유와 창조능력에 대한 간과” 및 “도덕적 다원주의의 인본주의적 한계”를 해소할 자연철학을 확보해야한다. 이러한 사실은 〈인간존중의 환경철학에서 생태존중의 환경철학에로의 이행〉의 토대가 될 자연철학이 우선 고려해야할 것이 생태계에서의 ‘사물’과 ‘인간’ 관계의 모호성을, 정확히 말하자면 ‘연속과 단절’의 이중성을 입증해줄 자연의 본질이라는 점을 가리킨다. 따라서 문제는 자연의 그러한 본질로 접근하는 자연철학의 내용은 무엇인지가 된다. 이 논문은 우선 메를로퐁티의 ‘생태론적 철학’[생태현상학]의 자연관에 내재된 그 내용의 진상을 자연적 상징주의로써 규명했다. 그리고 그 규명을 통해 이 글은 이어 결론적 사안들, 즉 메를로퐁티의 ‘생태론적 철학’ 혹은 ‘생태현상학’이 가리킬 새로운 유물론적 기획의 한 단면과 이 단면의 확장이 취하게 될 성취, 말하자면 ‘대안의’ <환경윤리와 ‘사회/역사’철학〉의 의의와 과제에 대해 논급했다.
Abstract
This paper is a study on a materialistical project of the radical ecology's environmental ethics which is based upon Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology that can be realized as an eco-phenomenology saying a new idea of nature, id est natural symbolism. This study, however, extends its own scope of a inquiry to another materialistical project of social or historical philosophy from the point of view of regarding it as an enlarged materialistical project of the radical ecology's environmental ethics. In briefly, in order to overcome previous environmental ethics' knotty problems originate from the violence of humanism the radical ecology's environmental ethics that presents itself as a new one has to get a more elaborate philosophy of nature which has an ability of dissolving the border line laid between human and nature. The reason why it must get such elaborate philosophy of nature is the fact that the former can not avoid actually the “bad ambiguity” appearing in the relations between nature and human without the latter. Considering this reason's sincerity, the philosophy of nature that hopes to offer a good theoretical foundation to the ecological environmental ethics will feel need for elucidating the real sense of ambiguous or dual relations between hunan and nature. The most importance thing for that philosophy of nature is to present an ontologically unified essence of nature, in other words, the quality of <rupture and continuity> which points to the ambiguous or dual relations between hunan and nature. Clarifying the meaning of <natural symbolism> implied in Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology that is realized as a eco-phenomenology, this paper looks into the philosophy of nature's ontological elucidation. And on this basic work, it will be treat of the fellowing matters: (1) To reveal a cross section of materialistical project of the ecological philosophy's environmental ethics which his phenomenology suggests. (2) In regarding the social or historical philosophy as an enlarged materialistical project of the radical ecology's environmental ethics, to allude to a signification and principal issue of the social or historical philosophy which his phenomenology calls for reconstructing a concrete philosophy we lost.
