이 글의 목적은 레비나스 텍스트 『존재와 다르게』에서 논의되는 ‘무한의 영광’의 의미를 규명하는데 있다. 무한의 영광을 이해하기 위해서는 그것을 구성하고 있는 영감, 영광, 무한, 증언 등의 의미를 이해해야 한다. 더욱이 이러한 개념들은 타자 윤리학을 심층적으로 이해하는데도 중요하다. ‘무한의 영광’의 의미규명은 주체와 타자 사이에서 발생하는 윤리적 사태를 구체적으로 직시하도록 한다. 그리고 주체의 심성을 일깨우고 각성시키는 타자에 의해 이루어지는 고무 작용과 타자에게 노출되어진 몸적 존재로서의 인간 주체성의 윤리적 의미를 심층적으로 드러낸다. 영감은 타자의 요청을 부여받은 주체의 주체성이 타자로 말미암아 쇄신되는 상태이다. 타자에게 영향받는 민감성의 주체성은 자신의 경계를 벗어나서 타자의 무한성에로 연결된다. 타인의 고통 앞에서 자신을 몰래 숨기거나 타인의 요청을 회피하지 않고 타자의 불행과 부름에 자신을 노출시키는 민감한 주체성은 ‘저 여기 있어요’라고 말한다. 이와 같은 타자를 위한 책임성에서 무한의 영광이 빛난다. 타자에게로 보내는 신호인 ‘저 여기 있어요’라는 말함은 윤리적 실천을 증거하는 무한의 증언이다.
Abstract
This study analyzes the meaning of 'the glory of infinity' in 『Otherwise than Being』 which shows the core principles of Levinas’ Ethics for the Other. Notwithstanding their importance to understanding ethics for the other, concepts in 'the glory of infinity' that include inspiration, glory, infinity, and testimony have not been properly discussed. The objective of this study is to elaborate the meanings of ethical situation between subject and the Other, that is, the awakening of our psychisme etc. Inspiration refers to a condition where the subject faces the demands of the face of the other and then the subjectivity experiences self-reformation. The subjectivity that possesses affectivity and susceptibility to the others has a link to the infinity of the other, moving trans and over the boundary of oneself. The glory of infinity shines when subject does not ignore sufferings and misfortunes of the other and responses to the Other. A sign to the other, the saying of ‘Here, I am’ provides the testimony of infinity to ethical practice.
