Comparison of Women’s Clothing Colors in Chinese and Korean Ancient Costume Films from the Perspective of Light Modeling

With the development of the times, the aesthetic of clothing is constantly changing, and the inheritance and development of ethnic clothing are facing challenges. At the same time, film and television works should also integrate traditional cultural arts and pay attention to the reference of ethnic culture. The women’s clothing in ancient costume movies is an important window to showcase the aesthetic of ethnic costumes. This article first examines the color characteristics of traditional women’s clothing in the Tang Dynasty of China and the Korean and Joseon Dynasties. Secondly, it explains the methods of light treatment and the role of light modeling in films. Based on this, it focuses on comparing the light modeling methods and aesthetic processing techniques used by Chinese and Korean films to highlight the color characteristics of women’s clothing, and discusses the narrative effects of light and clothing colors in shaping character images and promoting storylines. This reveals that Korean costume films have achieved multi-level character shaping through the artistic treatment of clothing colors, providing a reference and diverse aesthetic perspective for Chinese costume films.
