Abstract : Tetragonal zirconia substrates for dental implant were fabricated by powder injection molding and post-sintering, and also investigated to the influence of yttria-stabilizer and sintered temperature on the mechanical properties and the low temperature degradation under the aging at 150℃ for 150 hours in air. Commercial tetragonal zirconia powders stabilized by 2 and 3 mol% yttria were used as starting materials. Highly dense zirconia substrates with small grain size were prepared by powder injection molding and post-sintering at temperature from 1250℃ to 1450℃ for 2 hours. All specimens show superior mechanical properties, i.e., high modulus of rupture, fracture toughness, and hardness, satisfying required values as a dental implant material. However, most of 2 mol% yttria-stabilized zirconia (2Y-TZP) substrates show the phase transformation from tetragonal to monoclinic phase during aging at 150℃, indicating the low temperature degradation and difficulty in applying dental implant materials. In contrast, no phase transformation was observed in 3mol% yttria-stabilized zirconia (3Y-TZP) substrates sintered at 1300-1400℃ after heat-treatment at 150℃ showing the stable tetragonal phase and applying suitability as an all-ceramic zirconia implant for dental.
