Focusing on a correlation between contemporary dance and politics, this research attempts to search a desirable direction in both sides. It has been the case that dance and politics, first of all, are closely related to the question of national identity. We also find cases where dance is utilized as a political and diplomatic means for the enhancement of national prestige in the modern history. But, dance should neither fall into a means of politics nor be utilized as a stepping stone for a political career. An healthy tension is necessary if there is to be a constructive relationship between dance and politics. Then relationship between the two should be sought in the direction that such ultimate goals of dance as beauty, impression(deep emotion) and human love are achieved together with the political goal of the maintenance of community and the common good of improving individual life. The twenty-first century is the age of disciplinary integration. Especially, the study of dance needs interdisciplinary research taking the approach of sociology and incorporating anthropology, economics, political science, psychology, physiology, and medical science.
