초록
This study examined the prototypical characteristics of Kim Cheon-heung’s court dance, discussing the mature process of his court dance world. For this, I examined the reproduction method of traditional dance performances by the National Traditional Music Institute, and researches on the creative prototype of Chunaengjeon. The results of this study are as follows. First, Kim Cheon-heung inherited the manners of court dance faithfully and strictly, and at the same time, expressed his aesthetic sense naturally. Second, he followed the dance score of Jeong-jae-mu-do-hol-gi faithfully and at the same time, expressed his aesthetic understanding together. Third, he emphasized traditions transmitted through the body with the proposition, “My teacher did in this way.” Fourth, melting in naturalness and music, music should be coiled around dance and dance should soak in music. What is visible clearly is originally invisible. That is, sound permeates elegantly while the powerful emission of natural energy, bending and stretching, and pushing and pulling, are repeated unceasingly in regular bending and stretching. However, it is not an impossible phenomenon. It was the consequence of his systematic learning of court music and dance during his childhood, and his unconscious awakening to body motions toward arts through all the processes of his life. Our court dance does not demand highly technical functions. As suggested by dance terms in Jeong-jae-mu-do-hol-gi, a court dancer expresses the beauty of the body itself naturally by comparing it with a bird (oriole) and offers it to the king with all his/her heart like a bird flying high. Chunaengjeon is completed when the dancer floats in an artistic space rather than stepping on a flowered mat, and this is possible when the dancer attains an instantaneous spiritual awakening to art. Master Kim Cheon-heung compared the mat of Chunaengjeon with the space where an oriole flies, and sublimated it into an art work representing the freest, lightest and most powerful leaps of human.
