This research is to study on the choreographic use of music in dance through the study of Martha Graham’s Appalachian Spring. The dance presented an artistically excellent collaboration which led to synergy that were greater than the sum of their individual contributions, with its landmark score by Aaron Copland. Graham demonstrated musical sensitiveness, and captured the emotional essence of the music in her choreographical use. On the whole, Graham's use of music was categorized in three such as parallelism, contrast, and counterpoint that showed a paradigm for choreographers.
