본 연구는 장자 철학의 핵심 개념인 ‘유(遊)’ 사상과 민속무용 마당놀이춤의 심미적 체계 간의 상호 연관성을 규명하는 데 목적을 두었다. 『장자』의 ‘유’는 일종의 정신적 절대 자유이자 즐거움을 의미한다. 『장자』의 ‘유’의 정신과 심미적 특성은 제도적 구속과 현실적 얽매임에서 벗어나 정신의 초탈을 통해 즐거움을 추구하는놀이춤의 심미적 특성과 상통하는 것으로 파악되었다. 또한 마당놀이춤에서 연희자가 보여주는 자유로운 정신과 유연한 몸짓은 장자의 ‘유’ 사상이 지향하는 절대적자유의 경계를 구현하는 예술적 수단임이 드러났다. 본 연구는 한국무용의 도가 미학적 깊이와 가치를 새롭게 조명함으로써 한국무용미학이 도가 미학으로의 성립 가능성을 체계적으로 제시했다는 점에서 그 학문적 의의가 있다.
Abstract
This study explores the correlation between the core concept of ‘Yu (遊)’ in Zhuangzi’s philosophy and the aesthetic characteristics of Korean courtyard play-dances (madang nori chum). In Zhuangzi’s philosophy, ‘Yu’ signifies a form of absolute freedom and joy of the mind. This concept aligns with the essence of courtyard play-dances, which seek joy through the liberation of the body and transcendence of the mind, free from institutional constraints and worldly entanglements. The free-spirited mindset and playful movements displayed by performers in these dances embody the boundary of absolute freedom envisioned in Zhuangzi's ‘Yu’ philosophy. Through this perspective, the study aims to present the possibility of establishing the aesthetics of Korean dance within the framework of Daoist aesthetics and to reexamine the philosophical value of Korean dance.
