Abstract

In order to analyze the leisure activity style between gender, this study attempted to segment the group by conducting a LCA based on the leisure activity patterns of adults who enjoy arts, and sports. In addition, based on the omnivore theory, the existence of an omnivore group that enjoys a wide range of genres of sports and art within leisure activities was confirmed, and the determinants of the group were identified. By using data of the "2022 National Leisure Survey" conducted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of South Korea, four groups that fit the leisure activity pattern of each gender were derived. As a result, both men and women were classified into the "inactive" group, the "cultural/art preference" group, the "sports participation" group, and the "omnivore" group. Furthermore, a comparative analysis of leisure groups between gender was possible by recognizing factors that could belong to each group through multinomial logit regression. As a result of the analysis, for men, the size of the sports participation group was substantial, for women, the size of the cultural/arts preference group was substantial, and the omnivore group of women was larger than that of men. Afterwards, as a result of examining the determinants of each group, it was possible to confirm the constraints on women's leisure, and in the case of women, they have child, the lower the probability of belonging to the cultural/arts preference group was derived. Lastly the spouse effect was confirmed through the results that women were more higher the probability of belonging to the sports participation group and men were more higher the probability of belonging to the cultural/arts preference group if they had a spouse. The results of this study are significant since the study provided important information in the development of leisure activity programs that can reduce the gender enjoyment gap between cultural/arts and sports.
