1970년대 외국석유회사를 통한 탐사활동과 1980년대 이후 독자적인 탐사활동의 성과로, 1998년7월 동해 대륙붕 제 6–1 광구 고래–Ⅴ 구조에서 상업적으로 개발가능한 양질의 천연가스 저류층들을 발견하였다. 이에 2002년 3월 15일 생산시설 착공, 2004년 7월 11일 상업생산을 개시하여 천연가스/초경질유(컨덴세이트)를 18년간 생산/공급하였다. 이후, 2021년 12월 31일 천연가스공급이최종 중단되었고, 향후 CO2저장기지로 활용될 예정이다. 본 논문은 우리나라를 세계 95번째 산유국으로 만들어준 동해–1 가스전 탐사/개발/생산의 전 과정에 대한 주요 과정 등을 소개한다. 또한, 운영과정에서의 생산증대 및 시설물의 안정적 운영을 위한 기술작업 및 분석결과를 소개한다. 마지막으로, 추후 동해–1 가스전의 이산화탄소 지중저장 활용가능성에 대한 예비분석 결과를 소개한다
Abstract
Through exploration activities by foreign oil companies in the 1970s and independent exploration activities since the 1980s, in July 1998, high-quality gas reservoirs that could be developed commercially were discovered in the Gorae–V structure in Block 6–1 of the East Sea Continental Shelf. Accordingly, construction of a production facility and commercial production of gas/condensate began on March 15, 2002, and July 11, 2004, respectively. After 18 years’ production, the gas supply was finally stopped on December 31, 2021; the Donghae–1 gas field will be used for CO2 storage in the future. This paper introduces major technical works and analysis for exploration/development/ production in the gas field, which made Korea the 95th-ranked oil-producing country. In addition, efforts for production enhancement and safe operation of production facilities are reviewed. Then, the results of preliminary analysis of the possibility of using CCS (carbon capture and storage) in the field is introduced.
