This paper is one of the attempts to find out the details of "city", which has been the main theme of Abe Kobo since the late 1960s. It should not be merely a reflection of the high economic growth period of the 1960s, but rather its involvement in Abe's unique philosophy, such as "the language of city" and "the inner frontier." For urban images that appear in such works, it is necessary to approach the city not as an object with a specific geography or history, but as a kind of idea. From this point of view, this paper attempts to clarify that Abe's concept of "city" and the text of The Box Man have a variety of leaps of logic and antinomies, but still have a desire for utopia.
