본 연구는 수업 중에 학생들이 하고 있는 비언어적 의사소통 행동에는 어떤 것들이 있으며 이를 교사가 경험하고 있는지, 이를 어떤 감정으로 인식하고 있는지, 그리고 감정상태의 정도는 배경변인별로 차이가 나는지를 실증적으로 규명해 보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 중·고등학교 현직교사를 대상으로 설문지를 통한 조사연구를 실시하였고, 비언어적 행동의 보편적인 4가지 유형인 신체언어, 공간적 행위, 유사언어, 가공적 행위로 나누어 통계분석을 실시하였다. 주요 연구결과는 첫째, 학생들이 수업 중에 행하는 긍정적인 비언어적 의사소통 행동과 부정적인 비언어적 의사소통 행동 총 22개를 확인하였는데, 교사들은 1개를 제외한 모든 영역에서 이러한 학생들의 비언어적 의사소통 행동을 경험하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 학생들의 긍정적 비언어적 의사소통 행동에 교사들이 인식하는 감정상태는 기쁨이 압도적으로 많았으며, 부정적인 비언어적 의사소통 행동에는 화남, 불쾌함, 놀람 등의 감정상태를 느끼는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 학생들의 비언어적 의사소통 행동에 대해 교사들이 느끼는 감정상태의 정도는 배경변인별로 유의미하게 나타났다. 연구의 중요한 시사점으로는 비언어적 의사소통 행동은 수업목표 달성에 필수적으로 고려되어야 한다는 것, 수업을 위한 정서와 감정에 대한 연구에 기초가 될 수 있다는 점이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify students’ nonverbal communication behaviors in class, to reveal teachers’ experiences on the identified students’ nonverbal communication behaviors, and to empirically analyze their emotions and feelings when experiencing the nonverbal behaviors, depending upon their varied background variables. For this purpose, the study conducted survey research, the subjects of which were current middle and high school teachers. Statistical analysis was also conducted depending upon the four types of nonverbal behaviors, including kinesics, paralanguage, proxemics, and artifacts. Major findings are as follows: First, there were twenty-two nonverbal communication behaviors including both positive and negative ones identified students act in class and almost all the teachers experienced these behaviors. Second, teachers overwhelmingly felt joy on the students’ positive nonverbal behaviors. In contrast, they felt anger, disgust, and surprise on the students’ negative ones. Finally, the study showed that the degrees of their feeling were significantly different depending upon their varied background variables. Implications of these results are that nonverbal communication behaviors should be considered to be an important factor in order to achieve instructional goal and that the results of the study can be the foundation for the research on emotion and feeling for an instruction.
