Abstract

Cause-Related Marketing (CRM) is one of the corporate social responsibilities and it is very useful in practice. However, despite the high interest of companies in CRM, research on CRM is limited in academic terms. And the results of research are also inconsistent. In this study, we used two variables, consumer perception of loss and donation framing on cause-related marketing activities, to explain the discrepancies in previous results. First, we predicted that consumers' perception of donation will be a different attitude toward cause-related marketing. However, the study did not find any difference according to consumers' perception of loss. Next, we predicted the interaction effect between level of donation amount and donation framing. Donation amounts are framed in an absolute amount or a percentage of a sale price. The results showed that there was no difference between the relative percentage of a sale price and the absolute amount of donation in the attitudes toward cause-related marketing when the donation magnitude was high. However, in the case of low donation magnitude, consumers have a more favorable attitude toward the relative percentage of a sale price than absolute amount.
