Abstract
complicated and diverse characteristics of industrial economy and the emerging industrial phenomenon in Seoul require new industrial policy different from established ones. This study analyses various industrial characteristics, especially spatial characteristics of each district and five industrial areas in Seoul. In addition to classic analytic index, two indexes which consist of industrial specialization and diversity are applied in this analysis. According to the results, there are various industrial characteristics within Seoul’s industrial economy which are divided into each district and area. These results expose unique inclination different from industrial superiority often observed externally. While the result shows strong tendency of specialization and diversity especially in Central business district (CBD), in south-eastern district, the propensity is within limited level. Besides these districts, other areas also demonstrate distinguished specialization and diversity, which reveals potentials and constraints of industrial features in each district. These results imply that introduction of regional industrial policy based on spatial perspective is required as we develop strengths and make up for the weaknesses founded on industrial economic spatial characteristics of each district.
