Abstract
[Purpose] Digital transformation refers to the process of changing a company’s vision, strategy, organizational structure and culture to meet the needs of the digital environment. Digital transformation allows employees to work without time and space constraints by introducing new technologies such as new communication tools and remote work system. However, employee may experience technostress if individual lack the resources to adapt to the digital environment. The purpose of this study is to determine the causal relationship among digital transformation, technostress and work engagement. In current literature, this study assumed that digital transformation has a significant impact on work engagement. This study also postulates that digital transformation increases technostress and as a result, it has a negative effect on employee work engagement. [Methodology] To test the hypothesis of this study, a survey conducted on worker at ICT, financial, manufacturing and service industry. A total 202 responses were used for the final analysis, excluding the responses with errors. The research analysis was analyzed using structural equation model using SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 22.0. [Findings] The results are followings. First, it revealed that high level of digital transformation may influence high work engagement. Second, digital transformation are positively associated with technostress. Third, technostress did not decrease work engagement. We also found technostress did not mediated between digital transformation and work engagement. [Implications] These results may demonstrate the possibility that employees’ perceptions of digital transformation can increase technostress even though technostress did not impact on work engagement. This study shows the importance of managing employees’ technostress in the digital environment.
