Abstract

The purpose of the current study was to examine social perceptions about the 'brain education' and 'brain-based education'. By scraping through the contents of the internet, big data about both 'brain education' and 'brain-based education' were collated, and natural language processing, frequencies, similarities, centralities and topic modeling were applied to the data thereafter. The results showed that 'child' showed the highest frequency and centrality, and 'effect', 'popularity', and 'story' revealed the highest centralities in brain education data. For the brain-based education data, 'learning', 'research', 'science', and 'program' showed the highest frequency. The 'paradigm' and 'learning science' showed the highest similarity to brain-based education. The topic modeling analysis showed that the topics of brain education could be categorized into 'program of brain education', 'organization of brain education', and 'effects of brain education', whereas the topics of brain-based education could be categorized into 'research foundation of brain-based education', 'application targets of brain-based education', and 'goals of brain-based education'. These results showed the differences in social perceptions between 'brain education' and 'brain-based education'. Discussions took place and suggestions were presented based on these results.
