비판문화기술지의 방법적 탐색: 탐구영역과 그 절차에 대한 이해

초록

이 글은 최근에 새로운 질적 연구방법으로 대두하고 있는 비판문화기술지에 대한 개념과 탐구영역으로서 5가지 범주를 고찰하고 그 방법론적 절차를 논의하고자 한다. 다른 질적연구 전통과 비교하면 비판문화기술지에 대한 방법적 탐색은 우리나라의 경우 심도 있게 다루어지지 않았기 때문에 질적연구 이론화 측면에서 보다 중요한 의미가 있다고 할 수 있다. 이에 첫째, 비판문화기술지의 주요 연구영역은 어떤 것들이 있는지를 살펴보고자 한다. 둘째, 비판문화기술지를 학교와 조직 연구에서 어떻게 활용할 수 있는지에 대한 방법적 절차에 대하여 소개하고자 한다. 이를 위하여 이 분야에서 절차에 대하여 이론화를 시킨 Cars- pecken(1996)의 접근을 살펴볼 것이다. 이 연구는 우리 사회에서 사회적 불평등 요소인 계급, 인종, 젠더, 성 취향, 장애에 의한 소외에 대한 연구방법론으로 비판문화기술지를 탐색하고자 하였다. 그 결과로 첫째, 비판문화기술지의 탐구 영역을 계급, 인종, 젠더, 성 취향, 장애의 5가지 범주로 개념화하였다. 둘째, 질적연구방법으로서 비판문화기술지 연구를 어떻게 실행할 것인지에 대한 방법과 절차적 특성에 대해 알아보았다. Carspecken은 5단계로 제시하였는데 1단계는 초기 기록 작성하기, 2단계는 사전적(Preliminary) 재구성 분석하기, 3단계는 대화적 자료 생성하기, 4, 5단계는 체제분석을 실행하는 단계이다. 후속 연구를 위한 제언은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 비판문화기술지로 개념화된 5가지의 탐구 영역에 대한 실천적인 연구가 필요하다. 둘째, 모순되고 제도화된 사회의 이데올로기로 인한 문제점들을 개선하기 위한 다양한 연구방법론의 고찰과 후속 연구가 이루어져야 할 것이다.

Abstract

This writing is aimed to consider the concept and five sections of research on critical ethnography, which is recently coming to the fore as a new qualitative method of study, and discuss its methodological processes. Compared to other traditions of qualitative research, methodological investigation on critical ethnography has not been dealt with deeply in our country, posing a greater significance in terms of theorizing qualitative research. Accordingly, first, this thesis will look into what are the major areas of research for critical ethnography. Second, it will introduce methodological processes in using critical ethnography for research on school and organization. For this purpose, we will consider the approach of Carspecken(1996) who theorized the process in this field. The research methodology is designed for people to understand the study of social inequalities in our society that are being marginalized such as: class, race, gender, sexual orientation, and disabilities. As a result, the process is to explore and analyze class, race, gender, sexual orientation, disability was conceptualized in five categories. Second, the study helps us to understand and execute the procedure of critical ethnography. Carspecken presents five-steps: first step, to create the initial record. Second step, preliminary reconstruction analysis. Third step, to create interactive material. Fourth and fifth steps are to develop a holistic relationship between theory and analytical formats. Suggestions for future research are as follows: First, social inequalities but to continue further exploration, more practical research is needed. Second, social inequalities are consistent due to the ideology of institutionalized social issue. To improve the study of various of research methodologies follow-up studies will make.
