과학관 활용 조사를 통한 학교 교육과정과의 연계 방안

초록

본 연구는 대표적 학교밖 과학교육기관이자 현장체험학습이나 자유학기제 등으로 많은 학생들이 방문하는 과학관을 학교에서 어떻게 활용하고 있는지를 살펴 본 다음, 과학관을 보다 효율적이고 체계적인 교육 체험 장소로 활용할 수 있도록 과학관 교육 방안을 제시하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 교사들의 과학관 교육 활용 현황에 대한 선행연구와 설문을 실시하였는데, 교사들은 과학관을 방문하기 전에 과학관 전시물에 대한 사전 조사를 하며, 과학관에서는 전문 해설사의 설명이 도움이 된다고 하였다. 교사들은 과학관이 학생들의 과학에 대한 흥미와 관심을 갖게 해 주는 기관으로 생각하고 있었으며, 이러한 여러 자료와 정보를 바탕으로 학생-교사-과학관이 상호 연계된 학교 교육과정 연계 과학관 교육 모델을 제시하였다. 이 교육모델이 효과적으로 활용되기 위해서는 과학관 전시물과 학교 교육과정을 연계한 자료들과 활동지들이 개발되어야 하고, 개발된 정보들은 누구나 쉽게 활용할 수 있도록 인터넷에 탑재되도록 제안하였다. 또한 보다 효과적인 과학관 교육 모델이 되기 위해서는 과학관에서 교사들을 직접 연수하는 방안도 고려하여야 하며, 이 모델이 학생들의 과학적 태도와 지식형성 등에 도움이 되는지에 대한 후속 연구가 필요함을 제안하였다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to suggest effective educational methods in science museum for teachers and students who visited a science museum during school trips. To achieve the purpose, we examined how science museum which was regarded as the best out-of-school learning place for experiencing a science, was used as an educational purpose by school teachers. 245 elementary and junior high school teachers were participated in a survey study. Based on this survey and previous literature review, we found out that teachers studied about the science museum and museum displays before visiting, and they prefer museum docent’s guide. Teachers regard the science museum as unofficial institute to improve students’ interest and motivation in science, and students’ positive attitude toward science. Based on these results, we developed a science museum education model. The model suggest to cooperate school teachers, students, and museum to link museum display and school curriculum. For the best result of this model, science museum needs to develop educational resources and materials linking science museum with science curriculum and upload those to museum homepage for teachers and students. Teachers training program for science teachers in science museum are also needed. The following research on examining the effects of this model is highly recommended.
