자율성을 매개로 청소년 비행에 영향을 미치는 기질 및 주의력 결핍의 문제

본 연구에서는 주의력 결핍과 기질이 서로 다른 경로로서 청소년의 비행에 영향을 미치는 것에 주목하였고 그 과정에서 공통적으로 자율성이 매개역할을 할 것으로 가정하여 청소년 비행에 영향을 미치는 주의력결핍, 기질, 자율성의 구조적 관계를 확인하고자 하였다. 이를 위해서 경기도 소재 중학교와 고등학교에 재학 중인 남녀 140명(남=65, 여=75, 평균 나이= 14.5; SD= 1.9)의 학생이 연구대상으로서 기질 및 성격검사, 청소년용(JTCI), 청소년 행동평가척도(YSR) 및 FAIR 주의집중력검사를 통해 조사되었다. 연구 결과로서 먼저 상관분석에서 모든 4개의 기질 변인과 자율성 성격은 모든 비행 변인 즉, DSM-품행, 규칙위반 및 공격행동과 유의미한 상관이 있었는데 자극추구와 위험회피가 높은 경우와 사회적 민감성과 인내력이 낮은 경우 비행이 높았고, 자율성 또한 낮은 경우 비행이 높게 나타났다. 회귀분석에서는 자극추구 기질이 세 비행 변인에 공통적으로 가장 큰 설명력으로 유의미하게 영향을 미쳤다. 선행연구를 통해 설정된 가설을 검증하기 위해 기초 자료인 상관 및 회귀분석의 결과를 고려하여 주의-품질(통제주의력) 및 자극추구 기질이 각각 또는 함께 자율성을 매개로 공격행동에 영향을 미치는 모형들을 설정하고 구조방정식 모형 검증을 통해 분석한 결과, 주의-품질(통제주의력)은 오직 자율성을 통해서만, 즉 자율성의 완전매개를 통하여 공격행동에 유의하게 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 자극추구기질은 공격행동에 직접적으로 그리고 자율성을 매개로 간접적으로도 유의한 설명력을 나타냈다. 최종적으로 비행의 하위요인인 공격행동을 설명하는 적합한 모델로 확인된 자극추구 기질의 단순매개모형과 주의-품질(통제주의력)의 단순매개모형을 결합하여 이중매개모형을 설정하고 분석한 결과로서, 자극추구 기질은 청소년의 공격행동에 직접적 영향을 미치지만 주의-품질과 자율성을 순차적으로 매개하여 간접적으로 도 영향을 미친다는 결과가 나왔다. 연구결과는 그간 선행연구에 의해 반복 보고된 주의력결핍과잉행동장애(ADHD)가 비행에 미치는 영향에 대한 설명으로서 그 기질적 원인과 과정이 확인된 것으로 논의되었다. 끝으로 본 연구의 제한점에 대해서도 논의하였다.
Abstract
This study began with the assumption that both attention deficit and temperament influence violence in adolescents. The aim of the study was to identify the common mediating role of self-directedness in temperament, attention deficit, and violence. The research participants included 140 middle- and high-school students (65 boys and 75 girls), who were assessed using the Junior Temperament and Character Inventory (JCTI), Frankfurt’s Attention Inventory (FAIR), and the Youth Self-Report (YSR). All four temperament variables—novelty seek ing, harm avoidance, reward dependence, and persistence and sel f-directedness were significantly related to the three violence variables such as conduct problems, rule-breaking behaviors, and aggressive behaviors. A regression analysis showed that novelty seeking was the only significant predictor of all three violence variables. Ananalysis of structural equation modeling showed that ‘attention quality’ influences adolescent violence only through the mediators of self-directedness. Novelty-seeking behaviors have a direct influence on adolescent violence, as well as an indirect impact through the mediation of ‘attention quality’ and self-directedness in the order. The limitations of the study were discussed.
