Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating role of grit on relations among growth mindset, fixed mindset and college adjustment of college students. The participants of this study were 367 college students and completed self-report questionnaires on growth mindset, fixed mindset, grit, and college adjustment. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 and Amos 20.0. The results showed as follows: first, there were significant positive correlations among growth mindset, grit, and college adjustment of university students. And there were significant negative correlations among fixed mindset, grit and college adjustment and positive correlation between grit and college adjustment. Second, growth mindset directly affected grit, but it had no significant effect on college adjustment. Third, grit partially mediated the effect of fixed mindset on the college adjustment of students. This finding indicated that mediating effect of grit alleviated the negative influence of fixed mindset on college adjustment. The importance and implications of mindset and grit for improving college adjustment were discussed.
