Abstract
The Effect of fluid ingestion on stress hormones during prolonged exercise in the heat. Exercise Science, 13(4): 459-470, 2004. The purpose of this study was to investigate of fluid ingestion on stress hormones during prolonged exercise in the heat(temperature 32℃, relative humidity 61±3%). For this, 8 healthy university male students were made to take bicycle ergometer exercise of 60% O2max for 120 min. When water was not ingested they performed the bicycle ergometer exercise of 60% O2max for 120 min. When water and carbohydrate-electrolyte fluid was ingested they performed the exercise as same intensity and time. Fluid was ingested respectively different mounts in every 15 min. Venous blood samples were drawn at various times(before, duration and, after the exercise session). The result of this investigation suggested that the level of stress hormones in the blood were greater increased when water was not ingested than when water and carbohydrate-electrolyte fluid were ingested. These results suggested that fluids ingestion during prolonged exercise in the heat required for physiological, biochemical normalization or homeostasis of human body.
