Abstract
It has been recognized that treadmill and cycle ergometer exercise are most commonly used in studies to analyze the MFOX and Fatmax. The purpose of this study was to analyze the differences of MFOX and Fatmax by changing of exercise intensity and exercise modes for male and female cyclist. 22 well-trained cyclist(male, n=11, female, n=11) were performed in graded exercise tests using treadmill and cycle ergometer to the exhaustion. Running test was on a motorized treadmill by using Bruce protocol and the other type of test was performed on a cycle ergometer by using modified Astrand protocol. The results showed that MFOX was higher on treadmill than cycle ergometer in both gender regardless of the type that subjects were involved for long period of time. There were no significantly difference in MFOX and Fatmax on treadmill and cycle ergometer by gender. In conclusion, the expression of MFOX and Fatmax using different type of exercise and exercise mode was of no significant difference between male and female cyclist. However, female cyclists were higher in %VO2max of MFOX on cycle ergometer than treadmill exercise. Therefore further studies are necessary to elicit the differences of MFOX and Fatmax by exercise career and fitness level.
