본 연구의 목적은 중학생에 있어서 인터넷 이용의 유형별로 사회자본의 어떠한 차원이 강화되는지, 그리고 그러한 강화를 제약하는 부정적 이용행위로서 인터넷의 과다한 사용이 가지는 조절효과를 파악하는 것이었다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 한국청소년정책연구원에서 실시한 ‘한국청소년패널조사’ 중 중학교 3학년 학생들을 대상으로 수집된 2차년도 자료를 활용하여 분석했다. 자료에 대한 요인분석을 통해 사회자본을 강화할 수 있는 인터넷 이용유형으로 ‘관계지향적’ 이용과 ‘정보지향적’ 이용이 구분되었고 이들과 부모유대, 교사유대, 친구유대의 세 가지 유형의 사회자본과의 관계를 알아본 결과, 관계지향적 이용은 부모유대와 친구유대에 유의미한 영향을 미치지 못했으며, 교사와의 유대에는 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 반면 정보지향적 이용은 부모유대와 교사유대를 모두 강화하는 것으로 나타나, 사회자본 강화론은 정보지향적 이용행위에 국한됨을 보여주었다. 이용시간에 따른 조절효과는 관계지향적 이용이 교사와의 유대에 미치는 부정적 효과에 대해서만 나타났다. 즉 이 관계는 인터넷을 과다하게 사용하는 집단에 대해서만 유의미하고, 그렇지 않은 집단에서는 유의미하지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 이로써 인터넷의 과다한 사용의 부정적 효과는 일부에 국한되어 나타남을 알 수 있었다.
Abstract
This study was designed to examine the effects of patterns of internet use on the various types of social capital among the middle school students. Using the data of the Korean Youth Panel Survey, subjects were 3,102 middle school students. The analyses method was structural equation model. The patterns of internet use were 'relationship-oriented use' and 'information-oriented use', the types of social capital were tie-to-parents, tie-to-teachers, tie-to-friends. The results revealed that effect of 'relationship-oriented use' to tie-to-parents and tie-to-friends were not significant. 'Relationship-oriented use' were negatively related to tie-to-teachers. This relation was moderated with using time. The effects of 'information-oriented use' to tie-to-parents and tie-to-teachers were significant. The internet using time had no moderating effects to these relation. The tie-to-friends had no relation with 'relationship-oriented use' and 'information-oriented use'.
