＂서유기＂에 나타난 삼교의 윤리문화적 양상

이 논문은 세간에 많이 알려지고 또 읽혀진 서유기라는 작품 속에 나타난 윤리문화적 양상을 유불도의 삼교를 중심으로 고찰해 보고자 하였다. 다소 생소한 개념이지만 여기서 사용된 윤리문화라는 말은 인간의 윤리적 생활양식을 의미한다. 실천적 삶으로서의 인간의 윤리적 생활 자체가 과거에 어떠하였으며, 또 현재와 미래에는 어떠해야 할 것인가를 살펴보기 위해서는 윤리문화에 대한 연구가 상당한 적실성을 지닌다고 생각된다. 또한 이러한 연구는 윤리적 이론과 윤리적 실제와의 괴리를 해소하는 하나의 방편이기도 하다. 이 글은 세 가지에 주안점을 두고 작성하였다. 첫째, 장기간에 걸쳐 성립된 서유기의 윤리문화적 배경은 무엇이며, 둘째, 서유기라는 작품 속에서 유불도의 삼교는 어떠한 윤리문화적 양상을 보이고 있는가, 그리고 마지막으로는 이러한 양상이 오늘날 우리에게 어떤 시사점을 줄 수 있는가라는 것이 그것이다. 주지하다시피 유불도의 삼교는 중국인에게는 물론 우리의 삶에 큰 영향을 미쳤으며 또 지금도 미치고 있다. 서유기라는 작품에는 이 세 종교가 모두 등장한다. 삼교 간의 관계적 양상은 형식적으로는 유교와 불교, 불교와 도교, 도교와 유교의 셋으로 나눌 수 있고, 내용적으로는 대립 혹은 갈등의 관계와 조화 혹은 융섭의 관계의 둘로 나눌 수 있다. 서유기 속에서의 삼교 관계는 때로는 대립하는 측면도 있지만 기본적으로 상호 의존적 공생 관계를 이룬다. 상대방을 인정하고 존중하면서 각자의 본분에 충실한 모습을 엿볼 수가 있는 것이다. 이러한 윤리문화적 양상은 세계화와 정보화로 인하여 문화 간의 접촉이 확대되고 또 교류와 협력의 중요성이 증대되고 있는 오늘날의 관점에서 볼 때 상당히 시사하는 바가 크다고 볼 수 있다.
Abstract
Ethical Cultural Aspects of the Three Religions in 『SeoYuKi』 This thesis interprets aspects of ethical culture dealt inside the widely read and well known work called "SeoYuKi" mainly focusing on the three major religions of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. Although it is rather unfamiliar concept, the term "ethical culture" means men's ethical way of life. To interpret how men's ethical life was practical in the past, is present, and will be in the future, study on the ethical culture is necessary. Moreover, such study is a means to resolve the estrangement of ethical practice from ethical theory. This work is based on the three essential points. First, what is ethical and cultural background for "SeoYuKi" which was formed over a long period of time? Second, how does aspects of ethical culture of the three major religions of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism appear in the "SeoYuKi"? Finally, what do these aspects suggest today's people. The three major religions of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism have exerted and are still exerting great influence not only on Chinese but also on our lives. All three religions appear in "SeoYuKi". At certain times they confront each other but basically three constitute symbiotic relationship and depend on another. They accept and respect one another while faithfully carrying out one's part. Such ethical and cultural aspects contains great value in today's perspective in which cultural exchange is expanding and such exchanges and cooperation are becoming ever more important due to globalization and information oriented society.
