The purpose of this study is to investigate how to interpret animal symbol system among severalsymbol systems of figure therapy that require interpretation. As fundamental theories about Figure Therapysuggest, a client's unconsciousness is affected by his or her family. That humans are social animals means theyare language-using animals. Human beings live in existing language system. That is, the perception of pasttrauma is not static, but changeable because it is determined by the present. In this regard, this paper attemptsto present a symbol-interpretation method using Lacan's symbol system theory as a methodology to interpretanimal symbol system that symbolize family trauma. His understanding of symbol includes linguisticunconsciousness, namely the social aspect of unconsciousness and also provides foundation to the diversity andvariation of symbolic meaning through anchoring points theory. This study will contribute to using animalsymbol in Figure Therapy by enabling more various, comprehensive interpretation.
