도덕적 사고하기'를 통한 논술 지도 전략

대학 입학을 위한 논술은 경쟁에서 살아남기 위한 생존을 위한 글쓰기(survival writing)이다. 이 같은 생존을 위한 글쓰기 광풍 속에서 교육의 논리는 제대로 작동할 수 있는가? 요즘 특정 교과의 칸막이에 갇힌 논술이 아니라, 교과 간의 소통을 전제로 하는 ‘통합 논술’이 이야기되면서 모든 교과들이 논술 준비에 나서고 있다. 도덕과도 그 예외일 수는 없다. 하지만 논술이라는 실용을 앞세우는 것은 대증적 처방이 될 수도 있다. 그렇다면 교과의 정체성 안에서, 교과 학습을 통한 논술 지도의 방법에는 어떤 것들이 있을까? 소위 통합 논술이라고 하는 것은 개별 교과 수업으로 준비할 수 없는 난제인가? 교과로서 도덕과의 일차적 목표는 도덕적 가치 판단 능력과 도덕적 성향을 기르는 것이다. 이러한 도덕과 교육의 학술적 맥락은 자연스럽게 논리적이고 비판적 사고력을 통한 논술 능력의 함양으로 이어질 수 있다. 이 같은 전제 속에서 도덕과 논술 지도가 이루어 질 때, 도덕과 교육의 도구화를 막고 교과 본래의 정체성을 유지할 수 있을 것이다. 따라서 본 연구는 ‘도덕적 사고’가 ‘논리적 사고(logical thinking)’, ‘비판적 사고(critical thinking)’와 어떤 관계를 이루며 작동하고 있는지에 관한 의문을 우선적 문제로 설정한다. 이 같은 문제 설정은 ‘도덕적 사고하기(moral thinking)’와 대학 입학 논술이 어떻게 연결될 수 있는지를 보여줄 것이다.
Abstract
College entrance essay is a kind of survival writing for winning competition. Can educational theories play the role in the raging wind for survival writing? As integration essays are discussed, which are based on blending several content subjects, not focusing on one, every subject is preparing to teach essay writing. Moral education is not the exception. Yet, focusing on practical use of essay can be treatment for symptoms. Then, how can essay writing be taught through subject learning? Is it impossible to teach integration essay through classes of individual subjects? The primary goal of moral education as subject is to develop the ability for value judgment and the moral disposition. This academic context can naturally lead to the development of essay writing skills with logical and critical thinking. When moral education and teaching essay writing are carried out in this premise, it is possible to prevent moral education from getting instrumentlized and to keep the original identity of the subject. In this sense, the primary purpose of this paper is to question how moral thinking is related to logical and critical thinking. This can also give instructors ideas about how moral thinking can be linked to college entrance essay writing.
