쉴러의 미적 교육론에서 의무와 경향성의 조화

본 논문은 윤리학과 도덕교육에의 미적 접근의 의미 있는 하나의 실례로 쉴러의 미적 교육론에 나타난 의무와 경향성의 조화 문제를 다루고자 한다. 쉴러의 미적 교육론의 기본 관점은 그의 저서,『미적 교육』,『우미와 존엄』,『숭고론』,『칼리아스 편지』등을 중심으로 구성될 수 있다. 쉴러는 프랑스 혁명의 진행과정에서 표출된 인간의 폭력적인 성향의 문제, 그리고 자본주의가 태동하면서 발생하기 시작한 인간의 단편화와 소외 문제를 미적 교육을 매개로 한 인간의 총체성 회복을 통해 극복하는 것을 목표로 했다. 그는 인간의 총체성 회복의 계기로 유희충동과 미적 상태를 제시하는데, 유희충동과 미적 상태는 무엇보다 인간의 내부와 외부에 존재하는 대립되는 요소들 간의 조화와 통합을 가능케 한다. 유희하는 자는 미적 상태를 추구하는 자이고, 미적 상태는 현상에서 자유가 드러난 상태이다. 그러므로 미적으로 조율된 인간은 타당하게 판단하고 타당하게 행동하며, 무엇보다 의무를 즐겁게 수행하는 자이다. 쉴러는 자신의 미적 교육론을 통해서 경향성이 배제된 의무의식의 문제를 지적하고 의무와 경향성의 일치를 추구한다. 의무와 경향성의 조화는 의무에의 경향성이자 아름다운 행위의 근거이며 인성의 총체성을 드러낸다. 미와 숭고의 체험을 통한 의무와 경향성의 조화를 추구하는 쉴러의 테제는 의무윤리와 덕윤리의 관계설정에 일정한 기여를 할 수 있다.
Abstract
This article aims to delve into the problem of the harmony between duty and inclination in Schiller’s aesthetic education theory which can be able to play a meaningful example of the approach to ethics and moral education. The basic perspectives of Schiller’s aesthetic education theory consist of his writings such as Ästhetische Erziehung, Über Anmut und Würde, Über das Erhabene, Kallias oder Über die Schönheit. Schiller endeavored to overcome violent disposition which had burst forth in the period of French Revolution and the fragmentation and alienation which had occurred at the birth stage of capitalism. He took aim at the recovery of wholeness of man by means of aesthetic education. His aesthetic education paves a significant way to play drive(Spieltrieb) and aesthetic state(äesthetische Zustand) which can play a key role in coincidentia oppositorum inside and outside us. He who plays is the one who seeks aesthetic state, which is the freedom in appearance. He who is tuned aesthetically will judge right and will conduct his duty with pleasure. In the writings of aesthetic education, Schiller criticized the problem of duty except inclination and pursued the harmony between duty and inclination. The harmony between duty and inclination can be understood as inclination to duty and the ground of beautiful action, and express man’s wholeness. Schiller’s thesis, that is, seeking the harmony between duty and inclination through the experience of the beautiful and the sublime can contribute to relationship between deontological ethics and virtue ethics.
