오늘날 환경 위기는 인류의 생존을 위협하는 가장 커다란 문제 가운데 하나로 지목되고 있다. 이런 환경 문제를 해결하기 위한 근원적 방법은 문제의 본질을 단순히기술적 문제로 볼 것이 아니라, 오염된 인간 의식을 개선하기 위한 철학이나 윤리학의 접근이 필요하다고 보는 것이다. 일반적으로 환경 윤리의 논의는 인간 중심주의와탈인간 중심주의로 구분하는 것이 가능하다. 그리고 인간만을 직접적인 도덕적 의무의 대상으로 간주하는 인간 중심주의가 현대 사회에서 제기되는 환경 문제의 주요한가치관적 원인으로 지적받고 있는 실정이다. 다만 인간의 자연 지배 및 착취를 강조하는 강경한 인간 중심주의와 달리, 칸트의 주장은 자연과 관련한 인간의 간접적 의무를 인정한다는 점에서 친환경적인 시사점을 가지고 있다. 그리고 이러한 칸트의 주장은 온건한 인간 중심주의 내지 계몽된 인간 중심주의를 정당화하는 중요한 배경 이론으로서 역할을 수행할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
Today, the environmental crisis is pointed out as one of the biggest problems threatening human survival. The fundamental way to solve these environmental problem is not simply to view the nature of the problem as a technical problem, but to consider it a philosophy or ethics approach to improve contaminated human consciousness. In general, it is possible to divide the discussion of environmental ethics into anthropocentrism and post-anthropocentrism. In addition, anthropocentrism, which regards only humans as objects of direct moral obligations, is being pointed out as a major value cause of environmental problems raised in modern society. However, unlike strong anthropocentrism that emphasizes human domination and exploitation of nature, Kant’s argument has eco-friendly implications in that it recognizes human indirect obligations related to nature. And Kant’s argument could serve as an important background theory that justifies moderate anthropocentrism or enlightened anthropocentrism.
