Abstract
This study examined how motion-responsive music activities using physical computing technology affected participation behaviors in a child with developmental delays, and whether improvements maintained and generalized after intervention. The participant was a 5-year-old child with developmental delay attending an elementary school kindergarten. The research was conducted in a special education classroom over 9 weeks from November 2024 to January 2025, comprising 32 sessions in total. A changing criterion design was used to evaluate whether the tech-based music activities improved participation behavior. The main findings were as follows: (1) The technology-enhanced music activities improved the child's participation behavior; (2) These improvements maintained after intervention ended; (3) The improved behaviors generalized to after-school settings. This research empirically confirms that motion-responsive music activities using physical computing technology effectively enhance participation in a child with developmental delays. The findings highlight the importance of implementing digital technology-based teaching methods tailored to individual needs in early childhood special education.
