Abstract
This paper aims at explaining why radical ideology of the student movement in the 1980s was able to expand quickly. This study focuses on the ideology and strategy of the movement. The student movement in Korea became more radical in the mid-1980s than any other period by the National Liberation Line's accepting Juche ideology of North Korea. In this study, the movement ideology that accepted Kim Il Sung-ism is defined as the 'dogmatic anti-Americanism'. The radicalization of the movement is explained by inherence of the ideology and the popularization strategy. It is emphasized that the dogmatic anti-Americanism was not an abstract theory, but it met students' nationalistic need by explaining current situation prioritizing our national condition. Furthermore, the movement identity was expanded by applying a concrete and active strategy that appealed to people.
