Abstract

The purpose of this paper is both theoretical and empirical. On the theoretical level, the paper tries to clarify the theoretical issues on and the relationship among democratic movement, democratization, and democracy. In particular, related to the recent legistration of the Democratic Movement Compensation Act by the Kim Dae Jung government, the paper focuses on the scientific boundary of democratic movement in general and democratic movements in Korea in particular. On the empirical level, the article attempts to analyze the peculiarities of democratic movements, democratization process, and democracy in Korea.
