Abstract

This study aimed at examining the effects of media uses on the political network heterogeneity & the political tolerance, and the effects of the political network heterogeneity on the political tolerance, the effects of the political network heterogeneity & the political tolerance on the political participation. Existing research suggests that political diversity increases levels of political tolerance. In order to test the research questions, this study surveyed 1,200 Internet users. The results indicate that media uses didn’t have an impact on the political tolerance, but the political network heterogeneity had a positive influence on political tolerance. And the cross- networking exposure didn’t have an impact on the political participation including voting and participating in campaigning. The political tolerance had a positive influence on participating in campaigning, but not voting. The findings of this study are meaningful in that it expands the empirical research of relationships among the political diversity, political tolerance and political participation in political culture of Korea.
