이 논문은 GM 작물에 관한 논쟁을 서로 평행선을 걷는 소모적인 논쟁으로 만들지 않도록 방지하고, GM 작물에 관련된 실질적인 문제점에 대해 해결책을 모색하는 방향으로 나아갈 수 있는 토대를 마련하는 것을 목표로 한다. GM 작물에 관한 논쟁은 과학적, 사회경제적, 윤리적 관점에서 여러 가지 쟁점이 거론되고 있는데, 여기에 철학적인 쟁점이 추가되어 논쟁은 더욱 복잡한 양상을 띠고 있다. 이 논문은 GM 작물과 관련된 철학적 쟁점들을 살펴보고, 주요 개념들을 명료화하여 GM 작물을 둘러싼 소모적인 논쟁을 줄이고 좀더 생산적인 논의로 나아갈 수 있는 발판을 마련하는 것을 목표로 한다. 철학적 분석의 결과, GM 작물에 대한 의미 있는 쟁점은 안전성 쟁점과 권리 쟁점이라는 것이 밝혀진다. 안전성 쟁점은 과학적인 작업을 통해 해결될 것이지만, 안전성을 확보하기 위한 방안과 체계에 대한 요구는 과학 외적으로 충족되어야 한다. 권리 쟁점은 소비자의 자율적인 선택권을 보장하는 문제와 씨앗에 대한 권리 문제로 구분된다.
Abstract
This paper aims to prevent debates on GM crops from being a costly controversy in parallel, and to lay the groundwork for finding solutions to the practical problems associated with GM crops. The debate on GM crops has been addressed in many scientific, socio-economic, and ethical perspectives, with philosophical issues added to the controversy. This paper aims to explore philosophical issues related to GM crops and to clarify key concepts to reduce the costly debate surrounding GM crops and to create a platform for further productive debate. As a result of the philosophical analysis, it turns out that the meaningful issues of GM crops are safety issues and rights issues. Safety issues will be solved through scientific work, but they may require measures and systems to ensure safety. The issue of rights is divided into the issue of ensuring autonomous choice of consumers and the right of seeds.
