A Study on the Estimation of Non-marketable Value for National Fishing Ports: in the Case of Gyekpo Fishing Port

Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to build a methodology for estimating non-marketable value of the national fishing port in Korea and actually drawing it especially for the Gyekpo fishing port. We estimate the monetary value of the port with the CVM by three directions; non-marketable benefits of residents, non-marketable use-value of tourists, and environmental costs attributed by constructing it.The results are that the non-marketable benefit both from the residents and tourists is 45 billion-won and, on the other hand, the environmental cost is nothing but 6.6 billion-won. The net benefit from the construction of Gyekpo fishing port reaches 38 billion-won. Especially for the non-marketable benefits of Gyekpo, indirect benefits from the use-value of tourist are over 6 times that of direct benefits from the residents. This explains the main function of the fishing ports is changing from the conventional fishing facilities for fisherman to the multipurpose recreational space for general people.
