초록

The fact that fish is not a staple food makes fisheries important in enhancing food security particularly through indirect channels, including job creation, higher profits, and increased foreign exchange reserves through export. The most critical issue in the discourse on the relationship between fisheries and food security concerns how fish export affects food security. This study uses the Fixed Effects Model(FE model) to analyze how fisheries differently affect food security for countries with positive and no export externalities, respectively. The analysis reveals the following: For countries exhibiting no or small degree of export externalities, exporting fish and importing staple foods do not improve food security in the countries. Conversely, exporting fish and importing staple foods are highly likely to improve food security for countries which exhibit significant levels of export externalities.
