초록

Exercise is an effective treatment for depression and can be applied in an additional way to pharmacotherapy. From the scope of neuroplasticity, it is closely related to the adult neurogenesis of the hippocampus. Factors mediating this include BDNF, VEGF, IGF-1, serotonin, and anandamide. Observational studies have shown that active people are less likely to suffer from depression, and interventional studies have shown that exercise helps to reduce depression. Exercise may have an additional effect in mild and moderate depression patients, and it may be helpful to prescribe aerobic exercise and strength training together. Monitoring the intensity of exercise using an objective method of heart rate or subjective perceived exertional scale to maintain moderate intensity may lead to optimal exercise in depressed patients.
