Abstract

The first protestant nunnery in Korea began by some unmarried weak women 25 years ago. They want to build healthy and happy society, so founded the Diakonia Sisterhood in Korea. The Sisterhood serves society by single women who have formed a community themselves devoted solely to God. Therefore the spiritual life is a basis of all works. They take regularly spiritual exercises. They train their young applicants and training novices and retraining and revitalizing deaconesses. And they offer spiritual training for Christians in general and seasonal prayer meetings and services(Lent, Easter, Advent and Christmas) to the Christian in general. The Sisterhood have a maxim, which labor is prayer. So they realize spiritual life through the labor and work. They are running from 1982 an internal & the thorax clinic in the farming and fishing village. From 1982 to 1990 they had been running a tubercular sanatorium without government's help. From 1983 to 1989 they carried out health care for the rural and fishing people & the Development for the Community. They carried out 1986 the House for the hopeless Tuberculous patients, which is the living community for the patients without adequate care who suffers chronical Tubercle. And the Sisterhood works Home-visit welfare in the slum area and welfare facilities for the seniors.
