Abstract
Social Consciousness & Self-fulfillment of Byron and Shelley Byeonghoon Hwang (Yonsei University) Byron and Shelley reveal their individual perceptions as well as the social consciousness of the new turbulent era in their works. They encounter the unfavorable social and political circumstances. They have suffered from inner and outer tensions and conflicts. After they protest against the confinement of selfhood and human tyranny, they achieve self-fulfillment. Their adventure to somewhere outside their surroundings demonstrate the truth about the world around them. This enables them to deeply think about and to shape themselves. In nature helping to revive the freedom of their soul, they go beyond the regional and national boundaries to achieve self-fulfillment. Nature helps to evoke their emotional power and to achieve the eternity of their soul transcending life and death. Their insight is associated with the capacity to grasp the inner truth or true reality immanent in all things and all human beings. Their creative intuition is the realistic as well as the idealistic capacity for them to surmount social conflicts and evils of the time. Their changed selves sublimate their most painful into positive energy to help make a better society.
