초록
Objectives: This study aimed to systematically evaluate the effectiveness of herbal medicine for treating unexplained infertility in women. The objective was to analyze the actual impact of herbal treatment on unexplained infertility through a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Methods: Studies were selected based on criteria focusing on female patients with unexplained infertility who received only herbal treatment without assisted reproductive technology. Data were extracted from four international sources including the Cochrane Library until August 13, 2024. A total of 5827 studies were initially screened, and two RCTs were included for the final analysis. The Review Manager software (Version 5.4) was used to perform the meta-analysis, calculating the risk ratio with 95% confidence intervals. Results: Two studies were included in the meta-analysis. Herbal medicine significantly improved the pregnancy rate in women with unexplained female infertility, with a relative risk of 2.27 [95% CI : 1.30-3.97; I^2=0%], compared to Western medicine. One study evaluated the effect of Boshin-Bujeong-tang compared to Clomiphene, showing significant improvements in serum hormone levels (LH, E2, FSH) (p<0.05). The other study compared Danyu-eum to Vitamin E, demonstrating statistically significant improvements in endometrial thickness, blood flow parameters, and pregnancy rate (p<0.05). Conclusions: The results suggest that herbal medicine may be an effective treatment for unexplained infertility, especially in improving pregnancy rates and reproductive health parameters. However, additional well-designed RCTs are necessary to further validate these findings.
