발달장애아동 어머니의 사회적 지지망과 지원정도가 어머니의 양육스트레스 및 우울정도에 미치는 영향

초록

본 연구에서는 발달장애아동의 어머니가 가지고 있는 사회적 지원의 특성과 이에 따라 나타나는 어머니의 양육스트레스와 우울정도의 관계가 어떠한지를 살펴보고자 하였다. 연구대상 25명의 어머니들께는 개별면담을 통하여 연구의 목적을 제공한 후 어머니들께 설문지를 드려 자료를 수집하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같이 나타났다. 첫째, 사회적 지지망의 특성은 발달장애아동의 어머니가 자녀양육에 도움을 준다고 응답한 사람의 수는 평균 5.8명으로 나타났으며, 사회적 지지망은 선생님(20.0%), 친정부모(17.2%), 남편(16.6%), 시부모(9.7%)순으로 나타났으며, 사회적 지지망의 범주로는 남편과 자녀, 시부모와 시가 형제를 포함한 시가식구가 34%, 외할머니, 친정부모, 친정형제와 친정 친척을 포함한 친정식구가 32%, 치료 및 유아원 또는 유치원교사 등을 포함한 교육가 20%, 다른 학부모, 친구, 교회, 의사, 이웃, 시회기관 담당자를 포함한 비교육가 14%로 나타나서 사회적 지지망은 거의 가족을 중심으로 이루어져 전체의 66%를 차지하고 있었다. 둘째, 사회적 지원정도에 따른 어머니의 양육스트레스는 전체적인 양육스트레스에서 자녀를 양육하고 통제하는데 있어서 갈등이 많은 집단이 그렇지 않은 집단보다 양육스트레스가 유의미하게 높은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 사회적 지원 정도에 따른 어머니의 우울정도는 사회적 지지도가 낮은 집단이 높은 집단보다 유의미하게 높은 우울증을 보였고, 특히 정보적 지원이나 정서적 지지를 많이 받는 집단이 그렇지 않은 집단보다 유의미하게 낮은 우울증을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 그러므로 이러한 연구결과는 발달장애아동 어머니를 위한 사회적 지원체제나 지원의 필요성을 강조할 수 있는 근거자료가 되었다.

Abstract

This study investigated the characteristics of social support networks for mothers of developmental delay children and the relationship between parenting stress of mothers and levels of depression. Participants for this study were 25 mothers of children with developmental delay, while data were collected through questionnaires presented to the mothers. The results showed that 5.8 individuals on average were reported to support mothers of developmental delay children, family members accounting for 66% of supporters. The findings also showed that the parenting stress of the group of mothers who have difficulty in controlling children is significantly higher than that of mothers who do not experience such problems. Lastly, the results indicated that mothers who received emotional support as well as information from others exhibited significantly lower depression levels than those who did not get such support. These findings were taken to suggest that family support systems and social support programs for mothers of developmental delay children are needed to alleviate depression in mothers of children with developmental delay.
