한국의 유럽 지역연구: 연구 동향과 과제

Abstract

This study analyzes the trends and key themes of European regional studies in Korea using text mining techniques. It confirms that Korean European studies have achieved both qualitative and quantitative growth over the past several decades despite various challenges. The growth of European regional studies since the 2000s is particularly noteworthy, resulting from the expansion of academic infrastructure, the continuous efforts of researchers, and the combined support from various institutions and the private sector. However, for Korean European studies to further develop, several tasks remain. Active research exchanges and collaborations with other East Asian, North American, and European universities are necessary to ensure qualitative growth. A paradigm shift through the Comparative Area Studies methodology is also needed. Most current research remains at the nation-state or regional level, so moving beyond methodological nationalism to include more detailed studies, such as urban research at the sub-national level, is essential. This will help expand the scope of European regional studies and contribute to a more multidimensional understanding. This study aims to contribute to the systematic and in-depth development of Korean European studies based on these discussions. Continuous efforts and attention are needed for the advancement of Korean European studies, and this paper hopes to make a small contribution in this regard. Future research on European regional studies trends should adopt more diverse methodologies to attempt more comprehensive and multifaceted analyses.
